MAN'S ORIGINAL CONDITION Creation The Bible tells us in Genesis chapter one and chapter two, that God created this world and everything on it. The creation of Man is particularly interesting: Genesis 2:7 God formed man from the dust of the ground Genesis 2:7 ... (God) breathed into his nostrils the breath of life. Genesis 2:7 Thus the man became a living creature. Note: The words "breath" and "creature" are the same words which are sometimes translated "spirit" and "soul". However there is no evidence in the Bible to suggest that man has a separate "spirit" or "soul". Man is a complete being, there is no way in which he can be separated into different elements. Genesis 1:26 Then God said, Let us make man in our image and likeness to rule... Genesis 1:27 So God created man in his own image; in the image of God he created him... It is the fact that man was created in the image of God which separates him from all other living organisms. However much we train animals and research into their behaviour they will always be fundamentally different from us, because we have been given something special from God. Genesis 1:27 ...male and female he created them. Genesis 2:18 Then the Lord God said, 'It is not good for the man to be alone. I will provide a partner for him.' Genesis 2:21,22 And so the Lord God put the man into a trance, and while he slept, he took one of his ribs and closed the flesh over the place. The Lord God then built up the rib, which he had taken out of the man, into a woman. A special relationship exists between men and women. God formed the woman in a different way from the way in which He made the first man and the animals. In fact men and women today are from the same original body. This was part of God's plan, so that men and women would always be able to have a closer relationship than male and female animals, perhaps showing us something of the love which God Himself is capable of. Evolution There have been many books written which go into the details of the "Evolution vs Creation" argument. There is plenty of evidence for creation, and the evolutionists still have a great deal of trouble explaining the finer points of their argument. But still the majority view today is in favour of evolution, and there are a number of reasons for this:- 1. Twentieth century man has become an extremely self-sufficient creature and is very reluctant to admit that he is not responsible for his own development. 2. Evolution frees people from the responsibilities which are associated with the knowledge that God has a purpose for us. 3. In our society, science has become king. We treat science almost like a god and probably credit it with more achievements than it actually deserves. 4. An "Emperor's New Clothes" situation exists with evolution. It is accepted so widely and by such seemingly intelligent people that it must be true! No one is prepared to challenge such well established theories.
